This is In Ten Photos, a weekly photography newsletter by Samuel Tegge. If you’re new here, welcome! And to the rest of you, thank you for your continued support.

This week we dive into the Portuguese island of Madeira. It sits off the northwest coast of Morocco. It’s memorialized as the birthplace of Cristiano Ronaldo, famous for Madeira wine, and home to levadas, one of the oldest and densest hydraulic networks in the world. The levadas bring water from the north to the south for irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, and double as a stunning trail system.
